The Discharge over Notches apparatus comprises of a channel having a pre-calculated length and width in which water is supplied from the bottom. The Notch required to be examined is placed at one end of the channel. A pointer gauge with Vernier scale is provided to measure the height of fluid in flow channel. Interchangeable notches can be placed easily. Set of three notches, i.e. rectangular notch, 60° V notch & 45° V notch is provided along with the set-up.
This lab experimentation set-up is a self-reliant water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank and a centrifugal pump etc. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are provided in the water line to conduct the experiment at different flow rates. Measuring tank and stop watch are used to measure the flow rate of water.
