In a fluid machinery lab the main focus is on the study of fluid mechanics which can be described as the branch of mechanical engineering analyzing the characteristics of forces acting upon fluids which consist of liquids, gases and plasmas. The two sub categories in fluid machinery lab are fluid statistics and fluid dynamics.
Fluid statistics is concerned with the study of stationary fluids and concentrates on the study of various conditions under which the fluids are in a stable and motionless state. The general phenomena known to everyone which are explainable with fluid statistics are floating of wood and oil, changes in atmospheric pressure with variation in altitude, flat surface of water irrespective of its container. The fundamentals of hydraulics are also uncovered in fluid statistics during the study of hydrostatics.
Fluid dynamics is the second subcategory of fluid mechanics where we study flowing fluids i.e liquids, gases and plasma in motion. The principle of fluid dynamics derived from fluid machinery lab lets us explore the facts and theories of flow measurement. Fluid dynamic is a very complex subject and which is based on calculation of numerous properties of fluid like velocity, pressure, density, and temperature, as functions of space and time.
